At work at Mount Tremper Arts

I offer dramaturgy services to performing artists and facilitate the development of new work. As a collaborator on your project I provide support and productive intervention for your vision and goals. You can think of me as a midwife, devil’s advocate, translator, and transporter of your work. However we negotiate our collaboration, my priority is always advocacy for and nurturance of your project.

My process incorporates deep listening and locating the unique pulse of aesthetic, performative, narrative, and production values. How are you and I creating a verbal, physical, somatic or visual language for your work? How are cultural context and current artistic practice in dialogue with your work? You can think of me as a human tuning fork.

I bring over 20 years of experience of being a human tuning fork in my somatic and esoteric counseling practices, and 30 years of working all sides of theatre, dance, and multimedia performance. Investigating creative process is a passion of mine; the theory and the practice.

I know what it’s like to be the performer on stage, the director in rehearsal, the critic in the audience, and the administrator doing the paperwork. When I’m working with artists it’s second nature for me to experience the process through this prism.

Dramaturgy Statement

Sound structure that moves. Flexible bones. The ability to shape shift around a discernable nucleus.

My entire career and practice depends heavily on the ability to synthesize, so this is also how I work with art and artists. What might at first glance look like a juggling of unrelated ideas, disciplines, and sources, is really just one act: synthesis.

Then there’s destabilization. How do we maintain a living destabilization in a process so that the work stays ephemeral and responsive? Ongoing ephemerality ensures eternal relevance.

What if there is no such thing as creation? Just revelation? What if it all already exists? Maybe there is nothing more for us to do but help each other remove what keeps us from seeing and locating.

Answers stop the process. Can we build better maps out of all these questions? These maps are our flexible bones.
